THE SOLID ROCK. 032915

White lighthouse tower on St. Anastasia IslandIn Matt 7: 24-27, Jesus says, “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, is like a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.  But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

I think when He says your ‘house’ He’s talking about the values and beliefs that you base your life on.  In a spiritual sense, often in a natural sense, in a social, political, emotional, mental, psychological sense; the values and beliefs you base your life on really are your house.

And what about ‘the rock’?  Who or what is Jesus referring to by using that expression?  I don’t know about other translations, but in the NKJV it says, “built on the rock.”  Didn’t say “a” rock, or on “bedrock”.  It says ‘the’ rock.  It’s just too easy isn’t it?  Where I come from, The Rock is Jesus.  Isn’t it great?  Jesus says, “If you pay attention, and do what I say, I’ll think you’re a wise person who bases his whole life (you’ve built your whole house) on Me and My Words!

If you’ve ever been to church much, you’ve probably heard the song, ‘The Solid Rock’, by Edwin Mote, written in 1834.  It goes like this:  “1 My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ Name.     Chorus    On Christ the Solid Rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand; All other ground is sinking sand. 2 When darkness seems to hide His face, I rest on His unchanging grace. In every high and stormy gale, My anchor holds within the veil.     Chorus     3 His oath, His covenant, His blood, Support me in the whelming flood. When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my Hope and Stay.     Chorus     4 When He shall come with trumpet sound, Oh may I then in Him be found. Dressed in His righteousness alone, Faultless to stand before the throne.  On Christ the solid Rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand; All other ground is sinking sand.”

So found your life on the Rock, the Solid Rock.
