“Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.” John 7:24
“For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7
Hebrews 4:12 says, “The Word of God is living and powerful . . and is a discerner of the thoughts and the intents of the heart.”
Psalm 119:11 says, “Your Word have I hidden (stored) in my heart that I might not sin against You.”
If you have the Spirit of God in your heart, and the Word of God in your heart, then you almost certainly have the discernment that comes from the Word of God in your heart.
As you “store the Word of God in your heart”, you begin to be able to discern what is going on in other peoples’ hearts (and in your own). And over and over in the Bible it says that men look at external appearances, but God looks at the heart. As you fill your heart and mind up with the Word of God you will begin to discern what is going on in peoples’ hearts (and in your own), because the Word of God works its way out of you as God uses you as His instrument to achieve His purposes. This gift of discernment is not to use against people, but so you can discern how best to pray for them and love them and help them. We really can see as God sees when we are One with Him.
