In Joshua 1:8, The LORD says to Joshua, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. ”
It’s a lot like Psalm 1:1-3, where David says, ” Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the river, his leaf will not wither, and whatever he does will prosper.”
And in Matthew 5: 24, Jesus says, “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.”
In the days of Joshua and David, the “Book of the Law” was the first five books of our Old Testament; they called it the Torah. It was written down by Moses. For purposes of this discussion, for us, the Book of the Law is now the whole Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, and all three of these passages are talking about God’s Word, His Living Word.
And what does the LORD say Joshua is supposed to do with His Word? He’s supposed to meditate on it both day and night, so he can DO all that it says. For then Joshua will be prosperous and he’ll have success. And that’s not just about money, but about all the relationships of your life.
And what does David say? He says the man who is blessed (happy, to be envied) is the one who delights in the Law of the Lord, and meditates on it both day and night, and he’s like a tree by the river, he won’t wither, and whatever he does will prosper.
And what about Jesus? What does He say about His Word? He says if you hear His Words and you DO them, you’ll be like a man who built his house on THE ROCK. Your life will be stable, firm, sturdy, long-lasting.
What is the simple version of this subject? Here it is:
If you read God’s Word on a regular (dare I say daily) basis, and You meditate on it day and night, and You do what it says, You’ll be happy and successful and You’ll have a great adventure of a life.
