In Psalm 18:25-27, David says, “With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful; with a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless; with the pure You will show Yourself pure; and with the devious You will show Yourself shrewd.  For You will save the humble people, but will bring down haughty looks.”  In Matthew 5:3-12, in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says, “Blessed (happy) are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.  Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.  Blessed are the meek (the humble) for they shall inherit the earth.” Over in James 4:6, James says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace (more grace) to the humble.”  I think this is the God Principle, that if you give good, you get good; but if you give evil you get evil.  Like it says in Luke 6:38, “Give and it shall be given to you, pressed down, shaken together and running over, shall be poured into your lap.”

Just remember that why you give is important.  If you give out of the goodness of your heart, you will be rewarded; but if you give only so you will get, then God knows, and He cares.  God is looking at your heart.

It’s like the boy on Saturday night whose Momma asked him to shine her shoes before they went to church.  She told him she’d give him quarter.  He did the job to her satisfaction and she gave him the quarter.  He put the shoes by her bed.  In the morning, after she dressed, she sat down on the bed to put on her shoes, and she felt something in her right shoe.  She took it off, and found a quarter, wrapped in a small piece of paper.  On the paper it said, “I done it for love.”
